PM-KUSUM Yojana

Launched in March 2019 by the Ministry of New & Renewable Energy (MNRE), PM-KUSUM supports solar and other renewable power generation by farmers and rural land-users, especially in agriculture irrigation.

PM-KUSUM Yojana

The PM-KUSUM (Pradhan Mantri Kisan Urja Suraksha evam Utthaan Mahabhiyan) Yojana is a government scheme promoting solar energy use in agriculture. It helps farmers generate their own clean power, reducing reliance on conventional electricity and diesel for irrigation.

Through this scheme, farmers can install solar pumps and small solar power plants with up to 60% government subsidy. PM-KUSUM not only supports farmers financially but also encourages sustainable farming and contributes to India’s renewable energy goals.

Components

Key Components !

The Main Components Of The PM Kusum Yojana To Help Farmers

Component A

Installation of decentralised ground- or stilt-mounted grid-connected solar power plants (500 kW to 2 MW each) on barren or cultivable land by farmers/co-ops/panchayats.

Component B

Installation of standalone off-grid solar-powered agriculture pumps (up to ~7.5 HP) to replace diesel pumps in areas not connected or weakly connected to grid.

Component C

Solarisation of existing grid-connected agriculture pumps (either individual pump or feeder level) so excess solar-generation can be exported/sold to the grid.
